Answers

ANSWER.

* Calculation of volume(ml) of drug required.

       Formula

            Volume(ml) = Desired dose(D)/Dose in hand(H) * Quantity(Q)

Here

     Desired dose(D) = 2000 mg (2 gm)

     Dose in hand(H) = 250 mg.

          Quantity(Q) = 1.5 ml

As per above formula

      Volume(ml) of drug required = D/H * Q

                                                    = 2000/250 * 1.5

                                                    = 8 * 1.5

                                                    = 12 ml.

6) Patient weight in kg.

Weight of the patient in pounds = 175 pounds.

                 1 pound = 0.454 kg

         So

Weight of the patient in kg = 175 * 0.454

                                                   = 79.45

                                                   = 79.5 kg.

7) Minimum mg of amount allowed for this patient per dose.

              Allowed minimum dose = 200 mg/kg/day (every 6 hrs).

Weight of the patient = 79.5 kg (175 pounds)

      Every 6 hours means 4 times a day (6 * 4 = 24hr).

         So

         Allowed minimum dose for patient weight 79.5 kg = 200 * 79.5 / 4

                                                                                          = 15900 / 4

                                                                                          = 3975 mg per dose.

8) Maximum number of mg allowed for this patient per dose.

           Allowed maximum dose = 300 mg/kg/day (every 6hr).

Weight of the patient = 79.5 kg.

    Every 6hr means 4 times a day (6*4 = 24hr)

        So

          Allowed maximum dose for patient weight 79.5 kg = 300 * 79.5 / 4

                                                                                            = 23850/4

                                                                                            = 5962.5 mg per dose.
