When a Th cell is presented with processed antigen by an APC (Antigen Presenting Cell), the Th cell proliferates into its sub-types, such as Th 1, 2, 3, 17 or THF. These sub types secrete cytokines which can drive an immune response.

Apart from that, the stimulated helper T cell can activate cytotoxic T cells, macrophages and also stimulate B cells into antibody producing plasma cells and memory B cells.
