Nursing is considered as a dynamic and uncertain profession which demands the nurse to have some hard skills in order to provide effective patient care and treatment. The nurses must have proper technical knowledge of the subject in addition to practical knowledge of patient care and treatment. Moreover, a nurse must have some soft skills such as empathy and confidence so that proper and effective patient care can be provided with optimum patient satisfaction.

The nursing process is a systematic guide to the patient centered practice and it involve the components of patient assessment, diagnosis of the illness, planning of the care plan, implementation of the care plan and evaluation of the care plan. The nursing process require a nurse to have skills such as technical knowledge, clinical judgement, empathy, patient-centered communication, critical thinking skills and empathy.

  • Patient assessment is the first step of nursing process and it require a nurse to have proper technical knowledge and critical thinking skills. Knowledge about the symptoms and the disease can certainly help a nurse to undergo effective patient-assessment.
  • The diagnosis step of the nursing process involve a nurse to make proper clinical judgement for the patient.

    A proper clinical judgment thus enable the nurse to plan and prioritize the healthcare needs of the patient.

  • The care planning stage require the nurse to have proper technical knowledge and soft skills such as attentiveness and patient-centered communication. It enable the nurse to identify special needs of the patients and help them accordingly.
  • Implementation of the care plan involve a nurse to process the interventions of the care plan. It require skills such as effective communication, empathy, confidence, positive attitude and attentiveness.
  • Evaluation of the process involve the nurse to have critical thinking skills in addition to clinical judgement. This involve the nurse to judge the success or failure of the process in terms of patient improvement. In addition to it the process also require the nurse to make the necessary changes in the process if required so a nurse must also have technical knowledge.
