Question:

Hello this is the edited version to provide the response too. much appreciated

As the Manager of Customer Experience at YU Bank, you were assigned the job of revamping the Customer Service function at the branches. To get the project started, a research study at four branches was conducted to assess the effectiveness of a recent change in the customer account management process. Details of the study are as follows: a) A group of customers from each of the four branches were selected randomly and invited to participate in the study.

b Personal deposit and loan balances from these customers were extracted from the Bank’s databases before the change took place.

c) Personal deposit and loan balances from these customers were also extracted from the Bank’s two months after the change

D) A simple survey was conducted to ask the customers involved about their experiences with the change. A few variables from the survey were recorded and appended to the extracted deposit and loan file.

  1. Please use the Excel workbook, BUSI1013 Bank Dataset.xlsx, it contains the data collected from research study. Answer the following questions using this data set.

a. What would the population of interest be for this study?

b. Which method of sampling was used in this study?

c. How big is the sample size?

d. How many variables are in the data set?

e. Which of the variables are in nominal scale?

f. Name the variable(s) measured in ratio scale.

g. Name the variable(s) measured in interval scale.

h. Which of the variables are categorical?

i. Which of the variables are numerical?

Answers

a) Population of interest for this study is all customers of four branches of YU Bank where research study was conducted.

b)Simple random sampling method was used in this study as every customer of the particular branch had equal chance of selection as no specific criteria was specified for selection.

c) Since, the mentioned excel workbook "BUSI1013 Bank Dataset.xlsx" is not attached, it is not possible to answer sample size. Though, the total number of customers selected for the research study in all four branches is a sample size. Like if S1, S2, S3 and S4 are number of customers selected from Branch 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively then S1+ S2 + S3 + S4 is a sample size.

d)Again this question cannot be answered without looking in excel file. But still count the number of colums above to get answer. The variables mentioned in the write up are :  Personal deposit (Before changes), loan balances (Before changes), Personal deposit (After changes), loan balances (After changes).

Then the total number questions asked in survey to customer are also variable. Other than could be serial number, Customer name, Branche of customer, Account number could be other. Kindly count total headings in data set to get total number of variables.

e) Nominal scale variables are not quantitative or number oiented. These are variable which are used to identify observation or categorize them. They could be answered by two or more categories: Like gender is nominal scale variable whose answer will be male or female.

In this particular case Branch name could be one such variable whose answer can Branch 1, 2, 3 or 4 only. Similarly survey questions will nominal scale variable whose answer could be yes,no or agree/disagree or similar. Kindly review such options in the data set.

f) Ratio scale variables are variables which could be quantified but they are shown in ratio form. Like total number of banks transaction in one month, total number of transactions in monh. Kindly check such variables.

g) Interval scales are quantitive measurement where the distance between two points is an actual and equal distance which starts from beginning or Zero.Like total transactions, number or visits , temperature and others Identify such variables.

h)Categorical variables are the variables which could be divided in groups: Like branch names, gender, account class (saving or current.}Kindly identify such variables.

i) numerical variable is a variable where the measurement or number has a numerical meaning: Like total number of transactions, total money deposited or deited.

These are numerical variables.

If possible kindly add headings of all variables in comments. It wil help in giving exact answer.

Thanks
